Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education

Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education (Abbreviation: HCMUTE, in Vietnamese: Trường Đại học Sư phạm Kỹ thuật Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) is one of the top 10 and the most prestigious universities in Vietnam, which has opened its doors in 1962, since then it has undergone many changes and transformations. Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education today is a big educational institution, attended by more than 24 thousand students. It offers 29 Bachelor, 13 Master and 6 Doctorate Degrees awarding study programmes in 15 faculties and Institutes of the university.

The university employs 1400 teachers and professors. HCMUTE is the first university in Vietnam educating and training technical teachers for the whole country. Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education is one of the first 10 accredited universities in Vietnam, one of the first few universities applying for ISO 9001:2000 management system. HCMUTE has received the AUN-QA (ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance) Standard Accreditation for the following study programmes: Construction Engineering Technology, Automotive Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology, Automation and Control Engineering Technology.

HCMUTE is adopting a "hybrid model" of the university, so as to simultaneously promote, blend and harmonize the strengths of three educational trends: Engineering, Technology and Pedagogy. STEM Centre and Piloting of STEM Centre Activities

The STEM Centre of Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) is a sub-unit established within the structure of the new Centre for Innovation and Start-Ups (CIS), which was inaugurated in February 2020. The establishment of CIS was made by issued University Decision. CIS was created on the basis of previously existing School for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

A STEM center is a functional unit of the university where a group of people work together to improve education, research and community services through multidisciplinary activities.
The STEM centre management team is led by Mr. Pham Bach Duong (Director) and includes 5 members of staff: Mr. Le Hieu Giang, Mr. Nguyen Vu Lan, Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Mr. Truong Vinh An and Mr. Doan Tat Linh.
The STEM management faces the difficulties due to COVID-19 situation, the structural transition of former School for innovation and Entrepreneurship into CIS, waiting longer than expected for supportive funding. But in spite of that the STEM centre is planning the piloting activities:

  • Phase 1: Training of the trainers for Community service oriented projects, having knowledge & skills of STEM education.
  • Phase 2: Training the trainers, who will train High school teachers to implement project based learning.
  • Phase 3: Integrate the course into UTE-x (virtual training university platform of HCMUTE)


The STEM Centre has the vision to become a hub & platform for improving education, research and linkage to industry in an integrated environment of Science, Engineering, Technology, Art, and Mathematics and to become a vehicle to the employability of graduates.
