This is the eleventh event in a series of “Conversations in Anthropology” co-organized by the Institute of Asian and Transcultural Studies at Vilnius University and the Society for Anthropological Sciences-EuroAsia in partnership with the Lithuanian Anthropological Association. In this conversation Douglas Fry, David Henig and Glenn Petersen will discuss how the lessons of historical and ethnographic studies of war can provide insight into how to develop global systems of checks and balances that deter war and promote peace (with an emphasis on the Russian invasion of Ukraine).

First of all, I would like to thank for the opportunity to share the perspective of Ukrainian scholars towards the war against Russia. I have to admit that due to the circumstances, this essay will not be by any means scholarly or academic. It would rather reflect my values as an individual and as a Ukrainian. However, these values hugely overlap with the values of the academic community of Ukraine.

This is the eighth event in a series of “Conversations in Anthropology” co-organized by the Institute of Asian and Transcultural Studies at Vilnius University (VU ATSI) and the Society for Anthropological Sciences-EuroAsia (SASci-EU).

Our hominin ancestors inevitably encountered psilocybin-containing fungi widely distributed across temperate and tropical zones. Knowledge of primates’ and early hominins’ diet, ecology and self-medicative behaviors indicates that hominins also ingested mushrooms, including psilocybin-containing mushrooms.

During this event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Michael (SUNY-Orange, USA) will examine the following themes, both by looking at them in an abstract, theoretical manner, and by applying them to specific societies:

Discussions among anthropologists about who we are and what our goals are are fragmented. We do not often speak to each other about such things, leaving our shared understandings implicit. The recent discussions regarding Akhil Gupta's 2021 Presidential Address have provided an exciting exception. We witnessed wide-ranging discussions about the past, present, and future of anthropology on the "all member” Communities platform of the American Anthropological Association, encouraged initially by a post provided by Herbert Lewis.

2022 m. vasario 9 d. 17.30 val. maloniai kviečiame į unikalaus projekto „Lietuvos romų sakytinės istorijos archyvas“ pristatymą.
