Hue University of Sciences, Vietnam (formerly known as the University of Hue) was founded in accordance with the Decree No. 426/TTg dated 27 October, 1976 by the Prime Minister on the basis of merging College of Sciences and College of Letters belonging to the Institute of Hue University (the Institute of Hue University was established in 1957). In 1994, pursuant to the Decree No. 30/CP by the Government on founding Hue University, the University of Hue became an affiliated member of Hue University and was renamed into Hue University of Sciences (HUSC).
The Mission Statement of Hue University of Sciences: HUSC is a multidisciplinary education and training institution including graduate and undergraduate education programmes, and research activities. Its obligation is to provide qualified human resources, scientific research products in the fields of natural science, social science and humanity for facilitating the development of the Central Vietnam and Highlands in particular and Vietnam in general.
Before the 1990s, together with Ha Noi University and Ho Chi Minh University, HUSC was a prestigious university in Vietnam. Since then, HUSC is one of the leading universities in Central Vietnam and Highlands in terms of education and research. HUSC is always a selected destination for undergraduate and graduate students, who have ambitions to become promising researchers, lecturers, managers as well as leaders.
HUSC has been renewed following the recent changes of Vietnam’s educational system, at its 13 faculties HUSC promotes the application of the education and knowledge in many study and research fields.

STEM Training and Research Centre (STAR centre) of Hue University of Sciences (HUSC) was established in summer of 2020, the official inauguration was planned to have in July of 2020, but due to Covid-19 pandemic, the inauguration was postponed till December, 2020. However, the activities of STAR centre are running. The STAR centre is a functional unit of the university, where a group of people are working together to improve education, research and community services through interfaculty cooperation activities.
As to the legal and structural status of STEM centre in HUE university of Science. STEM Training and research Centre (STAR centre) is a separate unit with the following structure:

The Rector of the Hue University of Sciences VO Thanh Tung () who has taken an active part in design, development and establishment of the new STEM centre, has become the Director of STAR centre. The appointed members of the centre staff are: DUONG Van Hieu (), HOANG Huu Hanh (), LE Van Tuong Lan (), HOANG Cong Tin and PHAN Hai Phong.
The objectives of the STEM centre are aimed at:
- Quality Improving of study programmes through the integration of innovative learning and teaching tools and methods;
- Strengthening of the collaboration between university and entrepreneurs, developing STEM competences needed for the job market;
- Enhancing the development of skill set to HUSC students, which are necessary to prepare for well-paid careers in STEM-based industries;
- Extending of STEM activities to a broader group of students, including the ones studying IT, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Electronics and Telecommunication.
The piloting activities of the STEM centre include the training of the managerial staff and operational staff (activities coordinators). The main topics of managerial staff training are Project activities and implementation of STEM centre, Case study of STEM center activities. The main topics of operational staff (activities coordinators) training include: Developing of the STEM programmes for high school students; Co-teaching between University and Companies. There were courses organized for participants from 6 University Departments: Information Technology, Environmental Science, Electricity and Telecommunication, Sociology and Social Work, Chemistry and Biology.
